U of Minnesota Indoor Meet Results

The Trinity Track & Field team competed in the University of Minnesota ROTC Indoor Meet on Saturday, April 4th.

Official results are posted here:

There were many bright spots among the Tri-hawk performances...I wanted to highlight a few specific ones:

Girls-
- The Sprint Medley Relay team of Michelle Conway, Elena Thelemann, Britta McManmon and Theresa Gross broke the Trinity school record in the event. Their time of 4:38.62 broke the school record by almost 4 seconds (old record - 4:42.4)!
- Theresa Gross also broke her own 800m split school record with a time of 2:29.9 as the anchor of that relay. Theresa is off to a great start to the season!
- We had three girls triple jumpers over 28 feet (Maria Stephenson - 29-4.25, Michelle Conway - 28-2.25 and Sarah Ennis - 28-.5), which is incredible depth in the event this early in the season.
- Ruthie Gross stuck to her plan and ran an outstanding race in the 1600m, with a personal record of 5:50.37 and finished toward the front in the event with some highly regarded milers.

Boys-
- Two 400m runners, Dan Skarman (open 400m) and Will Bornhoft (4x400m relay) ran in the 59-second range on Saturday. The most impressive part is that Dan's training has been limited and Will isn't a 400m regular...both were solid efforts.
- All four of our entries in the two true distance events (1600m and 3200m) ran personal records. JonElliott Brubaker (5:12.78) and Andrew Zyla (5:24.26) in the 1600m and Cody Sommer (11:39.49) and Charlie Leighton (12:06.77) in the 3200m. They are proving that if you are willing to consistently work hard, you will see improvement.
- The Sprint Medley Relay team of Tyler Morley, Chris Gross, Charlie O'Hare and Jon Frenz had the most impressive guys team relay of the day. I told some of the relay team members that I would be impressed if they could break 4 minutes on the 200m indoor track this early. They finished with a time of 3:59.36.
- Jon Frenz had a terrific day and it showed in his pacing. He anchored the Sprint Medley Relay with a 2:11.3 800m split and a 57.9 400m split in the 4x400m Relay...he was able to run even splits in both races.
- Still, the most impressive performance of the day was one I already mentioned. Charlie Leighton had a plan to go after the 12-minute mark in the 3200m, which was a lofty goal considering his personal record was 12:48. He stuck to the plan and settled into the pace he needed for the middle laps of the race and gave himself a chance to pull it off. He finished the race 6 seconds short of his goal, but with a monster 42-second PR! Great job Charlie!
